Joshua Ellison

My first Passover was spent with Josh at his apartment in Chicago a couple of years ago. Four of us (plus his sweet dog, Beadie) gathered around a table in his living room, where we performed the first night’s Seder and read A Children’s Haggadah. Like the enduring rituals I’ve been exposed to just by knowing him, Josh exudes dependability and care. Here, he reminds us in so many words: We wake up, we make a promise to ourselves and we abide because the future asks us to. He now lives in a cozy A-frame in Vermont.
